The Litigators Review & Summary

Summary:
John Grisham has come up with another novel based on law firms; this time, it is based on a little law firm called Finley & Figg in Chicago that handles mediocre cases and makes mediocre profits and how suddenly they drool at the prospect of hitting a jackpot. The partners at the small law firm are making ends meet while working on fast divorce cases and other cases of public intoxications; they are forced to be contended with whatever comes their way.

The partners settle down working in their makeshift office. Twenty something years later, they meet a lawyer named David Zinc, a young achiever, who has already ridden the wave of success and had quit a well established law firm and goes on a drinking spree. He sobers down only to realize that he has to take a job anyhow and this resolution takes him to the door of Finley & Figg. As they start working together, they come across a case that involves big money, a case that involves a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical giant amidst a mess.

The owners smell big money, and with the young gun on board, they plan to hire clients who have been victims of the negligence by the pharmaceutical firm and join the case with a bigger Florida firm that is initiating lawsuit against the pharmaceutical firm. The book then takes us through a sinusoidal journey of thrill and suspense in courtrooms and otherwise.

Review:
John Grisham is not going to experiment now, another one on the theme of the law firms. He has come a long way since the book The Firm; his latest can be fun read for some or a drag for some, as it is meant for the John Grisham fans. The book does have stale elements, repeating a few things he has already done before. The law firm owners are hilarious in their verbal juxtapositions. The descriptions early on in the book can crack a smile on your face. The firm in discussion is a scavenger of lawsuits; they are hopeless to aspire to rise above mediocrity and then Grisham throws in David Zinc to make it interesting. The characters are well worked in detail and come across as very real.

This book does not take on the flaws of the Legal system or any other such serious deliberations instead, it is tailored to suit the public taste, to cater to the audience looking for a quick and worthy read without taking anything back from the book. This book doesn't challenge your thinking, it invokes laughter and is entertaining. The narration holds the book together; the revolving story line never seems to spiral out of control instead, it makes you revel in the chaos and confusion that surrounds the plot. Buy this book if you want to indulge in a form of entertainment that takes days of your life and gives you only boisterous surges of laughter in return.
