Losing My Virginity And Other Dumb Ideas Review & Summary

Summary: Losing My Virginity and Other Such Dumb Ideas is about Kaveri, 30, and yes she is a virgin, what a surprise! Apart from feeling deprived she has a job of an interpreter and has an expertise in 7 languages. She is carried away by the dating syndrome although without one and hates herself for that, after all, all the books she read on dating and how to end up in bed with men didn't help her get out of her introvert nature and explore her sexual freedom, which she badly needs to. As she picks up the pieces of her broken teenage dream of finding 'The Perfect One', on her 30th birthday she makes a resolution that she has to get rid of the 'Virgin' tag somehow, anyhow, consideration of being in love notwithstanding.

Following her insinuations Kaveri gets more than she had bargained for, she finds herself lurking in the shadows of being in a relationship with a married man. The book takes you through the complexities in Kaveri's mind as she struggles to gather and reorganize her priorities as she is taken for a ride inroad through all the impressions on the heart.

Review:
The Title is quite misleading as it makes you think there is more to this book than the 'how to lose virginity' charade of the popular culture. But the book begs for our attention as the author throws in the murk of a complex relationship in the protagonist's life which throws her off her clouds and she is forced to rethink everything that her life holds and that it once held. The protagonist's display as a lust-fiend is a lengthy mix of rhetoric and cyclic patterns that leaves the reader chasing his own tail. The author tries to revive the age old struggle of the psyche on the duality of lust and a rather profound association called as love by us.

Losing My Virginity and Other Such Dumb Ideas also tries to portray how shallow life in a city can get as Kaveri feels an unhealthy void inside and that sets her on a path contemplating spiritual fulfillment. The author deals with the subject of extra-marital affair elaborately as she describes the torpid ride of the entangled individuals. The author then takes the plot to the description of unrepressed sexual behavior of Kaveri that makes her seem like a sex-hungry demon from once being a shy virgin. The author tries to overdo things as she puts Kaveri in middle of a reality show and tries real hard to strike the balance in story telling while trying to incorporate too much. The whole hype surrounding love vs. lust scenario is dealt with contempt to morality, keeping the popular taste for degeneration in mind promoted by infesting media-hands.

The quest to find her sensuality leads Kaveri to high velocity collision with illusions and she tries to come to terms with life as she fathoms her heart for deeper human values in the end.
