Summary:
Being a sequel to The Immortals of Meluha, the book The Secret of the Nagas is
more inclined towards describing the struggle of Shiva with the circumstances
that take his journey onwards to the realization of his True Self. With his
friend Brahaspati killed by the evil Naga warrior, Shiva is now devastated.
Now the Naga fiend is after his wife Sati and in the quest of abducting her.
Shiva is been driven by the spiteful memories and is well on his way to the
path of vengeance.
With innumerable turns, the story involves Shiva getting into the search of a
mystery medicinal-plant that leads him to the kingdom of Nagas, and into
fierce encounters with the antagonist. Sati gives birth to his sons among a
lot of other significant developments. Moreover, the plot thickens and is in a
way a build up for the third novel The Oath of Vayuputras with the
introduction of a lot of new characters whose significance in the story is yet
underplayed.
Review:
The author Amish Tripathi's The Secret of the Nagas had been widely awaited
after the grand approval of the first one titled The Immortals of Meluha from
the audience. In his fictional work, a Trilogy on Shiva, one of the primordial
Hindu deities of the Holy Triad, the author moves the plot from the oppression
of good by evil to its redemption with various highs and lows in the life of
the God in becoming - Shiva. The author's philosophy that all Gods were humans
who have risen to their full potential is the underlying essence of both of
his works and majorly this one.
With the entire buzz generated regarding 80,000 copies being pre-ordered and
being pitted as a contender to be the bestselling novel of the year, the book
lives up to the expectations of ardent fans of the Shiva trilogy. Amish
Tripathi does try to elaborate the sequence of events a bit too far at times,
not leaving much to the imagination of the readers. The plot is
over-manipulated in the eyes of some right wing critic but all in all, this
novel is doing quite good as far as sales is concerned.
Although, fiction-lovers would be left craving for a better ending, it can
also be seen as a test of patience for the fans eagerly awaiting the release
of the third book. The book gets really exciting when it brings forth the
names of various places of pilgrimage and other Holy places, reworking the
reader's memory and thus his mind into a glorious series of imagination. The
Secret of the Nagas is a conglomeration of huge set of events that can take
the reader's mythological insights in to an overdrive and actually raise and
resolve some questions related to the same. The crux of the plot still remains
to be unfolded in the eagerly awaited next book. The God to be is made to pay
his dues with an unending sequence of trials and tribulations in this book.
The rise of Shiva is incessant as he unassumingly carries on his journey to
assume his true form that is the God of Destruction.
