Archer has not aimed at something so huge in the past and has hence turned this series into his most ambitious project ever. The life of Harry Clifton is set in the 1920 England; he thinks that his father was killed in the World War I which had taken its toll on the people of the esteemed nation. The turmoil of Clifton is what Archer dwells on as Clifton reaches out to figure out who his real father was, to know whether he is a son of a dead dock-worker working in Bristol docks or the son of someone belonging to an affluent family that has a shipping line to their name. The story spans 20 years from 1920 and the later years will follow in the coming volumes. The story is brilliantly weaved as Archer introduces and plays with some really vivid characters.

Will Archer find the truth behind his father's death? And where would his quest to avenge the death of his father lead him. Only Time Will Tell, the first volume from the Clifton series deals with Harry's struggle with himself to reach an end of his dilemma and to choose from a life in Oxford or join the Naval forces to go on a war against the Nazi Germany. The story unfolds in erratic turns with the brumous background of Clifton's life.

Jeffrey Archer's craftsmanship in story telling is unparalleled, the new one that pops a few bubbles regarding his losing edge on his stronghold i.e. Fiction. The five part series on Harry Clifton's life covers 100 years of storytelling together. The stories are narrated through various protagonists over different periods in time without ever compromising the flow. The skein, Archer weaves with Harry Cliftons's smothering by the circumstances, can be said to be drawn be way beyond the line but at the same time can hold readers gripped in vicarious floods of grief and sorrow. The book is full of Archer's trademark style of writing that made him a Fiction-deity of an author, like the notes at the end of the chapters and so on.

The plot is fairly less complicated, keeping in mind what Jeffrey Archer is capable of. Raised by a widow whose only goal is to make sure that his son has a flourishingly enriching life and torn apart by life and its ways is what the first volume holds. The narration holds you pinned as you writhe emotionally, reading about Harry Clifton. However, the six characters and their description possess the power to be melancholily repetitive at times. The theme of the World War just never fails to amaze audiences and top it with some breathtakingly intense heartbreaks and heartburns of the protagonist and there you have Only Time Will Tell.
